About the Course
Our Water Regulations Training is essential for plumbing and heating professionals who require a strong understanding of the UK’s water regulations and byelaws. Successful candidates will receive a Certificate of Competence issued by NICEIC Certification, valid for 5 years.
Certification supports the entry requirements for joining a Competent Persons Scheme and demonstrates compliance with national standards.

Course Content
Learners will gain a solid understanding of:
- The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 (England and Wales)
- The Water Byelaws 2000 (Scotland)
- Requirements of Water Regulations UK, supported by most UK water companies
- Key differences between England/Wales and Scotland regulations
There are two distinct course manuals depending on the region (England/Wales or Scotland).
Assessment
- Assessment is by theory examination at the end of the course.
Certification
- Upon successful completion, learners receive a NICEIC Certificate of Competence.
- Certification is valid for 5 years.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Hold an appropriate S/NVQ Level 2 or 3, BTEC, or equivalent qualification
- Be registered with an industry scheme (e.g., Gas Safe Register, ACS, OFTEC 105E)
- Have at least two years of industry experience in the installation or design/advice of domestic heating and hot water systems at an equivalent NVQ Level 2 or 3, supported by witness testimony from a responsible person
Re-Assessment
On expiry of the certification, candidates are eligible for reassessment. Previous certificates must be presented as evidence of the initial qualification.
